Scholarships available at Oxford American Writers' Summit

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Oxford American will offer five scholarships (including tuition, room, and board) for Arkansas college students to attend the inaugural Oxford American Summit for Ambitious Writers occurring June 21–26, 2011, at Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain.

"These scholarships will allow the most promising young writers at Arkansas colleges to learn from some of the best writers and editors in the nation," said Marc Smirnoff, editor of The Oxford American.  "We are pleased to be able to extend this opportunity to our home-state students."

The scholarships will be awarded to the five best student applications (as judged by the Summit’s Fiction and Creative Nonfiction admission boards) received from two- and four-year Arkansas colleges and universities.

Little Rock Fashion Week (LRFW) is accepting applications from hairstylists and hair salons, wanting to showcase their hair designs at Little Rock Fashion Week 2011, scheduled July 11-16.

In its third year, LRFW is recognized as the one fashion experience that pushes the envelope when it comes to models' hair on the runway. A few lucky hairstylists and hair salons will be highlighted at LRFW's Posh Expression and Young & Fabulous fashion shows. Participating hairstylists and salons will compete to win the inaugural LRFW’s “2011 Best Hairstylists" award. The winner receives several prizes and perks for up to one year.

Little Rock Fashion Week (LRFW) is accepting applications from fashion designers and boutique operators, wanting to showcase their clothing lines at Little Rock Fashion Week 2011, scheduled July 11-16. The final postmark deadline is March 5.

In its third year, LRFW highlights the best fashions by local and national designers and boutiques at its Posh Expression and Young & Fabulous fashion shows.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Thousands of spectators flocked to the Metroplex to see Little Rock Fashion Week's fashion presentation at the Seventh Annual Midsouth Summit Black Expo, this past weekend. The show served as a sneak peak for audience members into Little Rock Fashion Week (LRFW) 2011, which is scheduled July 11-16 in downtown Little Rock.

"This was a very important event for us. It was a an opportunity to reconnect with our followers in the community on a more intimate level, and reiterate our mission," says Brandon Campbell. "Little Rock Fashion Week isn't about just partying and fashion shows. It's about celebrating Arkansas communities, bringing people together with people, promoting people's talents and inspiring young people. These are examples of what makes Little Rock Fashion Week the best fashion experience in America.

LRFW brings style to UAMS Black Expo

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Little Rock Fashion Week (LRFW) will headline the Seventh Annual Midsouth Summit Black Expo with a fashion presentation, highlighting a few clothing lines to be featured at Little Rock Fashion Week 2011.

The expo is February 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Metroplex, located 10800 Colonel Glenn Road. The LRFW presentation is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. The expo and fashion show is free and is open to the public.

Attendees will get a sneak peak into this summer’s favorite fashion experience. The LRFW showcase will preview sophisticated, trendy and couture fashions by Savers, the Nicole McGehee Collection (LRFW 2010 Clothing Line of the Year), NaJo by Natasha Rawls (LRFW 2009 Clothing Line of the Year) and introduce Graffiti by 13-year old fashion designer Aaliyah Fisher, who will become the youngest designer to ever showcase in a fashion week.

Literary Festival seeks "Tales from the South"

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - "Tales from the South" radio show, in conjunction with William F. Laman Public Library and the 2011 Arkansas Literary Festival, is looking for great true stories to be told by the people who lived them. Top three stories will receive $100 each, and writers will read their winning story on the internationally-syndicated radio show on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Starving Artist Cafe' in the Argenta Arts District of North Little Rock, AR. Judging is by a panel of writers, professors, and editors.
