'Bridge the Gap with Fashion' this July 4

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- On this Fourth of July, the makers of Little Rock Fashion Week 2011 are organizing a live fashion presentation entitled "Bridge the Gap with Fashion." Models that will be seen in the third annual Little Rock Fashion Week on July 11-16 will be modeling clothes by Savers (one of the many sponsors of LRFW 2011).

The unique fashion experience starts at 8:15 pm on July 4, along the Junction Bridge Pedestrian Bridge Walkway near the downtown Little Rock in the River Market. The festivity is a symbolism of community togetherness. Audience members will receive a live fashion show, tickets to LRFW 2011, plus purchase them. The models' hair is being done by The Salon Professional Academy with make-up by Tonya Zambrano and other make-up artists of LRFW 2011.

Little Rock Fashion Week 2011 is July 11-16 at various locations in Little Rock.

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) -- Jacksonville Community Center will be offering self-defense classes beginning Saturday, July 23. The classes will be taught by local police officer Brian Blauser, a certified personal trainer and self-defense trainer with 10 years of martial arts under his belt. The classes will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. one Saturday of every month for 6 months. The cost is $20 per class or $120 for the whole 6 months. LITTLE ROCK – The Internet is a common and increasingly essential part of everyone’s life, utilized for bill payments, shopping and a variety of everyday activities. However, Internet users may also be targets for criminals who use personal or financial information commit identity theft.

June is Internet Safety Month. And, in an effort to encourage safe practices online, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel today issued this consumer alert to provide Arkansans with tips on how to better protect their identity and financial integrity on the Internet.

“Everyone can take steps to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft while on the Internet,” McDaniel said. “It’s necessary to take a few simple precautions to avoid the costly headache of repairing the damage caused by an identity thief.

Jacksonville celebrates Olympic Day

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. -- Olympic Day, held annually on June 23, is celebrated by thousands of people in more than 160 countries. Commemorating the birth of the modern Olympic Games, Olympic Day is not only a celebration, but an international effort to promote fitness and well-being in addition to Olympic ideals of Fair Play, Perseverance, Respect and Sportsmanship. It is also a day to celebrate the International Olympic Committee’s three pillars: Move, Learn and Discover.

Jacksonville Parks and Recreation is hosting Olympic Day events Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Dupree Park. Youth Kickball games start at 11 am (ages six and up) and Adult Kickball games starting at 6:30 pm.

Miss Arkansas Pageant offers free tickets to students

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. –  The Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant is proud to announce that there will be free tickets for students available at this year’s pageant.  On Wednesday and Thursday, July 13 and 14, Junior High and High School spirit squads are invited to attend the Preliminary competition free!    Spirit squad members must wear their uniform / team gear in order to receive complimentary admission. 

On Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16, fraternity and sorority members will be able to watch the final night of preliminary competition and the crowning night for free as well!  Greek members are asked to wear their letters or pin in order to gain complimentary admission. 

For both groups, there will be a table set up outside the Convention Center, on the Embassy Suites side near the box office.  Spirit Squad members and Greeks are asked to check in between 6:30 p.m.
