Splash Zone celebrates its 10th year

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Splash Zone wants to celebrate their tenth year of business with the public, so they are having a party. 

On Friday, May 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Splash Zone at 201 Martin Street in Jacksonville, Ark. will be having a celebration that will include chances to win Splash Zone passes and other giveaways. Admission in to the park will be $5, and slides will be free. Those who attend must be 48" or taller to ride the slides. 

Concession food and drinks will be available.

Local junior golfers compete for national competition

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - The Conway Country Club plans to host a tournament for local junior golfer at the beginning of June. 

The Arkansas District of Optimist International is inviting all local junior golfer to compete in the Arkansas Junior Optimist Qualifying Golf Tournament Saturday, June 6. Girls and boys ages 10 through 18 are eligible to compete. 

Winners of the competition can qualify to compete in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at the PGA National Resort and Spa Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. in late July.

Benton PD needs help locating runaway teen

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - The Benton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a 17-year-old who ran away from his home Thursday, April 23.

Christopher Bennett left his home Thursday, and according to reports, has not been seen from his parents since. 

Bennett is described as being a white male standing at approximately 5'6" tall and weighing at around 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He is believed to still be in the central Arkansas area. 

Police stated that any person who knowingly harbors a runaway could face charges.

A couple taking photos outside homes now suspects of theft

AUSTIN, Ark. (KTHV) - A couple is wanted for stealing outdoor items in a residential neighborhood off Pershing Street in Austin, Ark. Saturday.

The Austin Police Department received a call about suspicious activity in the Pershing Street neighborhood Saturday. Residents stated that a male and female were driving around in a dark colored Hyundai Santa Fe asking about the homes in the area and taking photographs.

An owner of one the residents off Pershing Street later reported stolen property from outside of their home. 

One of the suspects was described as a white female with long curly dark hair and tattoos. Her accomplice was said to be a bald white man with a goatee.

Approval for sidewalk clearing near Majestic Hotel

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - The City of Hot Springs received approval from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality Wednesday to begin clearing the sidewalk near the "yellow brick" structure adjacent to the Majestic Hotel. 

In February of 2014, parts of the Majestic Hotel in Hot Springs, Ark. went up in flames. Over a year later, debris from the fire still covers the sidewalk. 

The City of Hot Springs is taking over the project after giving the property owner over a year to dispose of the rubble. The project will include construction of a fence barrier to ensure pedestrian safety. The property owner will be billed for the cost of the project. The County Judge Rick Davis has agreed to waive landfill fees for debris disposal.

Jacksonville museum to celebrate Vietnam Veterans Day

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - The Jacksonville Museum of Military History will host a "Welcome Home" event to remember and honor Vietnam veterans Saturday, April 11. 

On May 25, 2012, President Barack Obama declared May 28, 2012 through November 11, 2025 as the 'Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.' 

The museum will be open at no charge to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 11. There will be several exhibits on display at the event. There will also be live music and a showing of the new documentary "The Last days in Vietnam" presented by AETN.
