Former PCSSD superintendent dies at age 54

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The former superintendent of Pulaski County Special School District has died at age 54.

PCSSD spokesperson Deb Roush says Dr. Charles Hopson died in Houston, Texas after having an unknown illness.  Hopson is survived by his wife, a media specialist at Portland Public Schools in Oregon and a daughter who is currently attending an Arkansas college.

Roush says Hopson was a high school improvement officer for the Houston Independent School District.  She says he took the job after being terminated from PCSSD.

Roush concludes that Hopson will be remembered to those who know him for his "love of equity and for being student-focused."
