Warrants obtained for 3 wanted on 13 abuse of corpse charges

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) – Police obtained warrants for three men wanted on abuse of a corpse charges.

According to April Kiser with Jacksonville police, the arrest warrants are for 63-year-old embalmer Edward Snow, of Cabot; owner 86-year-old LeRoy Wood, of Jacksonville; and 61-year-old Rod Wood. Each are facing 13 felony charges of abuse of a corpse—all of which are felonies

This is an update to a story THV11 has been following for months, as an investigation into alleged infractions at Arkansas Funeral Care in Jacksonville began in January.

Highway commission approves road improvement bids

LITTLE ROCK (AHTD) - The Arkansas State Highway Commission has approved a bid for improvements to roadways in Pulaski County, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

The purpose of the project is to resurface 1.7 miles of Jacksonville-Cato Road extending west from Highway 107 to Lybrand Drive and 1.5 miles of Jacksonville Cut-off Rd in Sherwood extending east from Highway 107 to Bayou Meto.

Rogers Group, Inc. of Nashville, Tennessee was awarded the contract at $331,276.49.

This project is part of the State Aid City Streets Program approved by lawmakers in 2011 and voters in 2012. This program provides $20 million annually from the state motor fuels tax to assist cities with projects selected by a nine member panel of Arkansas mayors.

Construction is scheduled begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be complete this summer.

18th Annual Youth Fishing Derby

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Fish enthusiasts ages 15 and under are preparing for a day of outdoor fun in Jacksonville. 

Jacksonville Parks and Recreation along with Arkansas Game and Fish are hosting their 18th Annual Youth Fishing Derby Saturday, June 20 at Dupree Lake at #1 Park St. 

Registration is free and will begin at 7 a.m. The tournament will start at 8 a.m. and will last until 10 a.m. rain or shine. 

Prizes will be awarded for different derby categories such as smallest fish caught, most fish caught and longest fish caught. Participants must be present to receive the awards.

Central Ark. McDonald's putting employees to the test

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - McDonald's is putting its central Arkansas employees to the test during the month of June.

The well-known fast food restaurant is hosting what is known as 'Crew All-American'. This will be a competition to select the best crew performers in each restaurant in the Central Arkansas Co-Op. Crew members will compete in areas such as French fries, assembling and hospitality.

The competition will take place at the McDonald's location at 816 W. Main St. in Jacksonville, Arkansas. The semi-finals will begin on Thursday, June 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will continue on Friday, June 12 and Thursday, June 18 also from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. The competition finals will take place on Friday, June 19 from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m.

Mortar training at Camp Robinson will cause loud noises

CAMP ROBINSON, Ark. (ANG) - Arkansas National Guard instructors from 233rd Regional Training Institute and Soldiers receiving certification for mortar training will participate in mortar live fire training on ranges at the Post.

The training will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, starting at 12 noon, and will run through the night and end just before noon on Wednesday, June 10, 2015

The training will take place on the northeast side of Camp Robinson near Cato, and south of Arkansas Hwy. 89.

Arkansas Air National Guard welcomes new commander

LITTLE ROCK AFB (Arkansas Air National Guard) -- Airmen, retirees, families, supporters and leadership of the Arkansas National Guard packed the hangar at the 189th Airlift Wing of the Arkansas Air National Guard at Little Rock Air Force Base on Saturday, June 06, 2015, as Brig. Gen. James K. Vogel assumed command of the 2,000 member Arkansas Air National Guard.

Maj. Gen. Mark Berry, adjutant general of the Arkansas National Guard referred to Vogel in his remarks during the ceremony as "a high-energy general officer with a passion for the Air National Guard and the ultimate resume of accomplishments." He credited Vogel with beginning work on positioning the Arkansas Air National Guard to add several new missions to its portfolio even before coming to be officially installed as the new commander.

Jacksonville announces bench warrant amnesty program

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (JDC) - Judge Robert Batton of the Jacksonville District Court has announced that the Court is holding a bench warrant amnesty day on June 12, 2015 from 9:00 AM till 3:00 PM

Anyone with a bench warrant from Jacksonville District Court, whether it is for failure to appear or failure to pay fines, can come to the Jacksonville Police Department, turn themselves in, be processed and see the judge. The normal $260.00 court cost will be suspended if the balance of the warrant is paid in full at that time. If not paid in full on this date subjects will be put on a monthly payment schedule. A $25.00 warrant fee (cash or check) will still be needed to complete the book-in process. (Warrant fee not applicable if warrant is recalled.) "Failure to Appear" warrants will be recalled.
