Students from all over Ark. will compete in State Spelling Bee

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - The best spellers in the state will come together to compete at the Arkansas State Spelling Bee, which could take the winner to nationals in Washington D.C.

The competition will be held Feb. 28 in the Reynolds Performance Hall on the University of Central Arkansas campus in Conway. Registration will start at 7:30 a.m. and the competition will begin at 9 a.m. 

The competition will consist of 60 county spelling bee winners in second through eighth grade that will be competing for an all-expense-paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C., in May. 

The other prizes will be Kindles for the top three finishers, Amazon gift cards and Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionaries.

CADC accepting LIHEAP applications next week

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (February 18, 2015) - Central Arkansas Development Council will begin accepting applications for the Crisis Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) utility assistance with mass intake days to begin February 23, 2015. Applications for regular assistance are still being accepted.

To qualify for Crisis LIHEAP, persons must have a disconnect notice with a disconnect date within seven days of application date. All households receiving food stamps are potentially eligible to receive this assistance; however, the program is not limited to food stamp recipients. The program assists households with home energy and heating bills. Eligible households must meet income guidelines and furnish proof of all household income for the month prior to applying.

Cabot law enforcement Freezin for a Reason

CABOT, Ark. (KTHV) - The Cabot community will be taking the plunge for 'Freezin for a Reason' on Feb. 28. 

The event will be held at the Cabot Community Pond, located at 1881 Kerr Station Road. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and the plunge will be at noon. 

All of the proceeds will go to the Arkansas Special Olympics. Plungers can also register online at this website. Each participant will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt. After you have gotten wet, be sure to stay and enjoy the other Plunge festivities.
